Is everyday a Friday in Austin? Locals online seem to think so. Discussions on social media are gaining traction as many residents seem to believe that “no one works in Austin.”

Now of course, that statement is not true, as data suggests that Austin’s unemployment rate in June was 3.4%, according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor and Statistics. However, the city has become popular for remote workers since the COVID-19 pandemic, despite some big employers in the area choosing to bring employees back to the office.

More recently, social media videos from residents have been going viral as they talk about their experiences going out in the middle of the day during the week and seeing more people than they expect. While some are curious as to what type of jobs Austinites have that allows them to have free time during the day, others want to know if people are actually working in the city at all…
