Car crashes into Central Austin restaurant, police still looking for the driver

AUSTIN, Texas — Police are searching for a driver who crashed into a central Austin restaurant early Sunday morning and fled the scene.

Austin police responded to a 911 call at 3:23 a.m. about a vehicle that had crashed into Gusto Italian Kitchen at 4800 Burnet Road. The caller reported seeing the vehicle speeding and driving erratically through the parking lot before the crash, according to police.

Officers arrived to find a large hole in the restaurant’s wall but no occupants inside the building. The vehicle remained at the scene, but the driver was missing after a thorough search of the building and surrounding area…
