Texas DPS director’s son is still an active trooper weeks after injuring bystander in 101 mph crash

A state trooper who is the son of Texas Department of Public Safety director Freeman Martin remains on active duty two months after he blew through a red light and seriously injured a bystander during a high-speed chase in Austin.

The trooper, Freeman Hunter Martin, has so far not faced disciplinary action, though the agency says it is investigating the case. A crash report said Martin was driving at an “unsafe” speed of 101 mph in a 45 mph zone when he ran the light.
