In a significant nod to tradition and state security, Texas Governor Greg Abbott took to Great Hills Baptist Church to observe the Texas Department of Public Safety’s (DPS) 90th anniversary, joining the ranks of officials to witness the ushering in of new troopers at the latest DPS graduation, this according to a report by the Governor’s office. The ceremony marked the culmination of a demanding 30-week training program for the graduating class A-2025, consisting of over 120 individuals ready to uphold the law across Texas.
Addressing the graduates, Governor Abbott underscored the significant evolution of DPS, saying, “DPS has a legendary place in the history of Texas. Of the 90 years of service, DPS plays a far more pivotal role than ever before,” underscoring the criticality and honor tied to their roles, “Whatever the challenge, you are now part of the DPS legacy—a legacy built by heroes,” the Governor celebrated the graduates’ achievements and thanked them for their impending service, the graduates themselves a diverse cohort, with 52 military veterans among them, 19 women, 14 individuals who have previously served in law enforcement roles, and 55 bilingual speakers, who symbolize the varied face of Texas’ future in law enforcement.
According to the information from the Governor’s office, these new troopers will report to their respective Texas duty stations on September 1, 2025, reinforcing the ranks of the state’s protective forces.
