Milwaukee Police Chief addresses 2024 decision to apply for Austin position

MILWAUKEE, Wis. – Milwaukee Police Chief Jeffrey Norman has spent his entire 29-year policing career with the Milwaukee Police Department, during which he has often expressed his admiration and pride for the city.

But in 2024, he nearly departed for Austin, Texas to hold the same position, finishing as a runner-up to former Cincinnati chief Lisa Davis.

“I ​was ​presented ​an ​opportunity. ​I ​said, ‘​I’ll ​be ​interested ​to ​look ​and ​see ​what ​this ​opportunity ​was.’, ​and ​to ​be ​honest, ​I ​get ​presented ​opportunities ​a ​lot.” said Norman when asked by WTMJ about the decision to pursue the Austin job during a Milwaukee Press Club Newsmaker Luncheon Tuesday. “It’s ​almost ​like ​shopping [when] you’re ​not ​hungry, ​you ​make ​better ​choices.”…
