Austin rent prices rising year over year, study shows

AUSTIN, Texas — A new report shows rent for a one-bedroom apartment in Austin has risen 2.7% since last year and is the most expensive in the metro area.

Apartment search website Zumper released a report ranking cities by how much it costs on average to rent a one-bed apartment. Austin topped that list with a median cost of $1,520. That rate was unchanged from last month but up 2.7% from last year. Two-bedroom units in Austin rose 1.5% since last month and 5.3% since last year to $1,990.

Next on the list is Kyle, which is nearly $100 cheaper than Austin. Round Rock came in third with $1,350 for rent. Leander and Georgetown rounded out the top five at or close to $1,300…
