Austin Community Mourns Loss as Pedestrian Fatality on Airport Boulevard Marks City’s 63rd Traffic Death of 2025

Tragedy struck on Airport Boulevard early this August, when a vehicle collided with a pedestrian, resulting in a fatality that has since rattled the Austin community. The Austin Police Department (APD) responded to the accident, which occurred in the 2000 block of the busy thoroughfare, revealing the pedestrian as Javar R. Quinton, a Black male born on August 6, 1989. Despite receiving immediate medical attention, Quinton succumbed to his injuries some two weeks later.

The incident occurred on Saturday, August 2, 2025, at about half-past midnight. Quinton was transported to a local hospital where, after a valiant fight, he was pronounced dead on August 16, at 4:02 p.m. The driver involved in the incident remained at the scene, cooperating with law enforcement, an action that at least spared Quinton’s loved ones the added agony of hit-and-run ambiguity.

This year’s statistics cast a somber shadow over the city’s streets, with this incident marking Austin’s 63rd fatal traffic accident in 2025, pushing the death toll to 67 lost souls. The tally stood appreciably lower this time last year, with only 48 fatal accidents causing 51 deaths according to the initial assessments.
