Pflugerville man acquitted due to insanity in 11-year-old’s death

AUSTIN (KXAN) — A 40-year-old man was found not guilty by reason of insanity in the death of an 11-year-old family member, according to documents from Travis County.James Revada was initially charged after the girl’s death at their Pflugerville home in July 2022.

On that day, police said James Revada was experiencing a mental health crisis at the home in the 18000 block of Friendship Hill Drive. Police said Revada told them he was having a “Bi-Polar episode” and hurt the girl, according to an arrest warrant affidavit.

He was indicted in August 2022 on capital murder and two counts of injury to a child charges. Two years later, he was found not guilty by reason of insanity and was committed to an inpatient facility designated by the Texas Health and Human Services Commission, documents show. In April of this year, the court determined his inpatient treatment should continue.

The 460th District Court in Travis County found Revada met the criteria for inpatient treatment, because he “has a severe mental illness,” which could result in him causing “serious bodily injury to another if he is not provided with treatment and supervision” and the treatment was “necessary to protect the safety of others.”…
