AUSTIN, Texas — West Campus, a neighborhood near the University of Texas at Austin, now has more security as part of an effort to increase overall safety.
On Aug. 4, UT Austin said an increased number of University of Texas at Austin Police Department (UTPD) officers and officers with the Austin Police Department (APD) began patrolling the neighborhood, which is home many UT students.
“Nothing is more important than the safety of our students, families, employees and visitors,” UTPD Chief Shane Streepy said in a press release. “We established an intentional presence off campus in the West Campus neighborhood, and now we are growing that presence to enhance the safe experience for those who live, work and study near UT Austin.”
What is the West Campus Police District?
UT says approximately two dozen university police officers work in teams with permanent shifts in the neighborhood, operating with motorized vehicles, on bicycles and on foot. They’re based out of the West Campus substation at 24 Nueces St…
