Five Arrested in Austin Capital Murder Case Following Early Morning Shooting

AUSTIN, TX — Austin Police Department (APD) investigators have arrested five suspects in connection with the shooting death of 49-year-old Miguel Mondragon, the 37th homicide of 2025 in the city.

The incident occurred shortly after 2:30 a.m. on Sunday, August 3, near La Michoacana Market at 9811 North Interstate 35 service northbound. Officers responding to a report found Mondragon deceased in a grassy area near the market, with trauma consistent with gunshot wounds. A second victim’s pickup truck at the scene was riddled with bullet holes.

Investigators said Mondragon and a companion had left a nearby club with two friends when two vehicles, carrying multiple suspects, blocked their car and demanded property at gunpoint. Mondragon attempted to flee on foot but was shot. Suspects then took his belongings and fled.

  • Yanaris Reyes, Hispanic female, 29
  • Antonio Gonzalez, Hispanic male, 17
  • Yurisander Gongora Rojas, Hispanic male, 19
  • Hector Yohany Achang Batlle, Hispanic male, 19
