I-35 in North Austin faces hours-long closure after multiple holiday weekend crashes

Southbound lanes of I-35 in North Austin have reopened after being shut down for hours, from Saturday night through Sunday morning, during police investigations into two fatal crashes.

The Austin Police Department said officers responded to the 6000 block of I-35 Southbound around 11:50 p.m., where a traffic fatality occurred. All main lanes were immediately closed, and traffic was diverted to the service roads while investigators worked the scene. Police urged drivers to avoid the area and expect significant delays.
