This Texas highway might be ‘evil,’ but the person behind the account has heart

The addition of toll lanes on this Central Texas highway and the growing pains of the city it torments have long been a topic of debate for residents, especially for the ever-incognito Texan behind the always cheeky social media account, Evil MoPac. But sitting at a coffee shop in Austin with the account’s mysterious — but very real — handler proves there are multiple sides to every story in history — even that of a parody account.

Through the fleeting thoughts of existential dread and the love-hate with the Capital City’s fluctuating identity, one thing was apparent throughout MySA’s hour-long chat with the undercover handler: MoPac might be evil as ever, but the person running the famed social media account has a Texas-sized soft spot in their heart for ATX. Oh, and for the San Antonians out there, know that the account’s handler thinks there’s an opportunity for teamwork between the Alamo City and the Capital City — but we’ll get to that later.

Just like the city of Austin, Evil MoPac’s account has changed since it launched in 2016. Seeing as its handler has been in Austin for “decades” (but not forever, as they clarified), they’ve witnessed the city’s evolution.
