Just 30 miles north of Austin, a once-quiet Central Texas suburb has exploded in growth, propelled alongside metro-wide migration patterns as Texans and transplants alike flock to Georgetown. While the city’s been dubbed the Retirement Capital of Texas, Georgetown’s population is anything but sleepy, having grown nearly 51% between the 2020 Census and 2024 Census estimates to surge past the 100,000-resident mark.

What’s the population of Georgetown?

Based on the 2020 U.S. Census, Georgetown is home to more than 67,000 residents. However, when looking at 2024 Census estimates, its population has surged since the last Census, with population estimates now hovering above 101,000 — an approximately 51% increase. Georgetown is one of seven cities within the U.S., including five in the south, to cross the 100,000 population mark this year, the Census confirmed in a May release.

Its median age skews older than state estimates, with a city resident median age of 42.6 years old compared to 35.9 years old in Texas. That runs in tandem with the city’s overall population breakdown, with 27% of its population ages 65 and older compared to 13% of residents in that age range statewide. The city is also home to a sizeable veteran population, with 10.9% of Georgetown residents classified as vets compared to 6.1% of Texas residents.
