Microplastics linked to tire, roadway particles found throughout Lady Bird Lake and Lake Austin, UT study shows

AUSTIN, Texas — A University of Texas researcher is taking a closer look at what’s really in Austin’s waterways.

Danielle Zaleski, a master’s student in geological sciences, has spent the past two-and-a-half years collecting samples from the bottom of Lake Austin and Lady Bird Lake, including areas where Interstate 35 runs over. What she’s finding isn’t just fish, turtles and plants – it’s microplastics.
