At the recent 2025 Star Of Texas Awards in Austin, Governor Greg Abbott paid tribute to first responders for their unrivaled dedication and courage in the line of duty. During his keynote speech, Abbott underscored the significance of educating Americans about the events of September 11, 2001, and stressed the continued valor of those who protect our communities on a daily basis. Abbott was quoted saying, “What you all do for the State of Texas is incomparable,” in a news release from the Office of the Texas Governor.
The ceremonious event, joined by a litany of Texas dignitaries including First Lady Cecilia Abbott and various state officials, recognized the heroism of first responders, many of who have faced danger with a fearlessness that has safeguarded countless Texans. According to a statement obtained by the Office of the Texas Governor, Governor Abbott said, “This year, we honor 28 remarkable Texans who demonstrated incredible heroism in the line of duty.” Marking September 11 as Texas First Responders Day, this yearly assembly is part tradition, part heartfelt thank-you note to those who have worn the badge of courage so selflessly.
Implemented through House Bill 1937 in 2003, the Star Of Texas Awards not only remember but immortalize the contributions made by peace officers, firefighters, and emergency medical first responders in their line of work.
