Secret piece of Texas retail history just listed on Lake Austin for $16 million

A historic stone lodge sitting right along the shores of Lake Austin has hit the market for the very first time—and it’s asking $16 million.

The property sits in the heart of Rivercrest, one of Austin’s most storied (and star-studded) neighborhoods—and yes, it was once home to Matthew McConaughey. In fact, the actor reportedly bought his estate from a member of the same family that’s owned this newly listed home for nearly a century. He was known to jog around the block and often stopped to chat with Conrad Bohn, the longtime owner of this newly listed home. According to locals, the two built a friendly rapport over the years.

The estate, located on Rivercrest Drive, dates back to the 1930s when Walter Bohn—heir to the Bohn Brothers Department Store—purchased the land to build a weekend fishing lodge and pecan grove. It became the first home in what would become the Rivercrest neighborhood, and it’s remained in the Bohn family ever since.

The three-bedroom home features a hand-hewn limestone exterior and a wide covered patio framed by classic stone arches with a balcony that stretches above.
