The rescue dog, named Microsoft Office, is recovering after a blood transfusion and other treatment
A dog is finally getting the chance to ditch the hundreds of dangerous parasites that have been plaguing him.
On Sept. 16, a pup, later named Microsoft Office, arrived at Austin Pets Alive’s animal hospital covered in thousands of ticks. Microsoft Office had ticks lining his face, ears, and more. The case was the “worst tick infestation” that Austin Pets Alive! (APA!) vet Dr. Shvil had ever seen, according to the rescue.
The 3-year-old dog arrived at APA!, and its Shelter Pet Hospital, after being rescued by Raymondville Animal Shelter, a rural Texas shelter. When Microsoft Office reached the APA!, he was too weak to stand and anemic. The shelter’s hospital immediately began treatment, starting with a blood transfusion to give the drained dog a boost.
After the transfusion, Microsoft Office relaxed and let multiple APA! staff members pick the ticks off his body. The process took hours, with the workers removing hundreds of ticks. Dr. Shvil said the total number of ticks removed likely surpassed 1,000.
Free of ticks at last, Microsoft Office is focused on recovery. Thanks to the blood transfusion he received, provided by a donation from Tiger, a shelter dog in APA!’s care, Microsoft Office is stable, but he’s still fragile. APA! has already spent $1,000 on the canine’s care, providing transfusions, allergy medications, steroids, fluids, anti-nausea medications, and other necessary treatments.
The organization is dedicated to providing Microsoft Office with whatever he needs to help him regain his health and strength…
