Austin, TX — For years, Brian McKinzie has been more than a teacher in the Lake Travis Independent School District, he’s been a mentor, a role model, and for many families, a lifeline.
Outside the classroom, Brian dedicates his time to supporting young adults with special needs. He created a social group where students can build friendships, connect with peers, and practice real-world skills like grocery shopping, budgeting, cooking, and teamwork. Parent for a former student, Bonita Hodde, who nominated Brian for our Cash for Kindness segment, says without Brian, many of their children would spend nights alone at home, but instead, he makes sure they’re engaged, included, and encouraged.
“Brian has a way of encouraging and motivating our kids even when they are having their worst days. He sees the best in our kids and tries to gently push them to their individual potential. He is patient and kind and he respects our kids despite their differences. I wish more people could be like Brian.”…
