The district revealed plans in a draft proposal to redraw 98% of existing attendance boundaries, relocate dual language and Montessori programs and repurpose schools for non-zoned elementary programs for the 2026-27 school year. Austin ISD said the consolidation and boundary change process are needed to address declining enrollment, staffing shortages and a lack of resources within the school system.

The schools listed for closure include:

  • Barrington Elementary School
  • Becker Elementary School
  • Bryker Woods Elementary School
  • Dawson Elementary School
  • Maplewood Elementary School
  • Oak Springs Elementary School
  • Palm Elementary School
  • Ridgetop Elementary School
  • Sunset Valley Elementary School
  • Widen Elementary School
  • Winn Montessori Elementary School
