Two juvenile suspects have been taken into custody in a case involving stolen firearms and attempted auto theft, as announced by the Austin Police Department (APD) in collaboration with Cedar Park Police and the Austin Independent School District Police. The joint investigation led to the execution of search warrants and arrests after firearms were found in the possession of one of the suspects. Details of the action were released in a public statement from APD on October 9th, 2025.
It was on September 10 that the APD Auto Theft Unit secured photographic evidence showcasing one suspect with several firearms, some of which are regulated under the National Firearms Act. The photos, validated by multiple investigative tools and eyewitness accounts, indicated that the crime occurred within the Austin city limits. Subsequently, obtaining a search warrant led detectives to one suspect’s residence, where, hidden in a bedroom, the recovery of eight firearms occurred, including multiple silencers and short-barreled rifles.
The initial findings spurred the APD to secure three arrest warrants for Possession of Prohibited Weapons against the primary suspect. The ongoing probe brought a second suspect into the frame, compounding the situation with four additional warrants on similar grounds.
