The Fear Spreading in Austin: Routine Arrests Now Lead to Deportation

As ICE agents escalate arrests, the number of immigrants being removed from Austin jails is increasing, according to KUT News. Kristen Dark, a Public Information Officer for the Travis County Sheriff’s Office, stated that for inmates in the county’s care and custody, ‘they usually wait 24 hours or less because we get pickups from [U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement] almost every day.’ Dark also noted that ICE pickups sometimes occur twice a day that’s really unheard of especially here in Texas.
