Five Injured Near University of Texas After Truck Hits Pedestrians, Driver Charged with Intoxication Assault

Five individuals were injured after a pick-up truck collided with pedestrians near the University of Texas at the Raising Cane’s on West Martin Luther King Boulevard, CBS Austin reported. The incident, which occurred early Friday morning around 2:25 a.m., resulted in four of the victims being hospitalized with serious injuries.

The driver of the Ford F-150, 21-year-old Antonia G. Garcia Rios, was taken into custody and charged; according to KXAN, she faces two counts of intoxication assault, while Austin-Travis County EMS stated that two of the injured sustained serious, potentially life-threatening injuries, with another suffering serious injuries, and the fourth victim had minor injuries.

In wake of the incident, a representative from Raising Cane’s expressed gratitude for the quick response of first responders and conveyed their concern for the injured, “We are aware of the accident that occurred last night at our Restaurant near the University of Texas campus. We are grateful that first responders arrived at the scene quickly and provided immediate assistance to those injured,” the representative told CBS Austin. “Our thoughts are with them, and we wish them a full and speedy recovery.”…
