Libertad Austin, a new affordable housing community, has opened in East Austin. The development offers 198 multifamily rental units for households earning between 30% and 60% of the median family income (MFI). It is located at 900 Gardner Road in District 3. The project is intended to increase affordable housing in the Austin and Travis County area, with a focus on people at risk of or experiencing homelessness. Austin Housing, the Austin Housing Finance Corporation (AHFC), and the Vecino Group developed the project. Caritas of Austin will provide on-site supportive services.
The complex includes one-, two-, and three-bedroom units, ranging from 653 to 1,052 square feet. Of the 198 units, 50 are set aside as Permanent Supportive Housing (PSH) for people moving out of homelessness. The units are divided by income level: 30 at 30% MFI, 15 at 40% MFI, 41 at 50% MFI, and 112 at 60% MFI. This structure offers different affordability options for residents.
Amenities at Libertad Austin include a fitness room, business center, playground, basketball court, landscaped outdoor areas, and covered bicycle parking. The community is near Govalle Neighborhood Park, East Boggy Creek Greenbelt, and the Liberal Arts and Science Academy…
