Scooterist dies after being struck by a vehicle in downtown Austin

AUSTIN (KXAN) — A 22-year-old man died at the hospital Sunday after he was struck by a vehicle on West Fifth Street on Saturday morning, according to a press release from the Austin Police Department.

Around 1:29 a.m. Saturday, officers responded to a crash between a vehicle and a pedestrian on a scooter at the intersection of W. Fifth Street and Rio Grande Street.

APD identified the scooterist as 22-year-old Alexander William Gonzalo. Police said Gonzalo was taken to the hospital and died the following day.
