Two separate drive-by shootings cause damage to east Austin businesses

AUSTIN (KXAN) — The Austin Police Department is investigating two reported drive-by shootings that damaged several east Austin businesses. APD has yet to make any arrests.

Nov. 9

Around 6 p.m. on Nov. 9, security footage shows a green Subaru Outback driving in front of Nunya, a bar located at 1806 E. 12th St. The video captures someone in the vehicle shooting at the business’s facade, shattering the front window.

“It seems like somebody did a drive-by with a B.B. gun or some kind of projectile,” said Richard Routh, who has owned Nunya for less than a year. “It’s really annoying. It’s not violent, but it is annoying.”

Routh said replacing the window will not be cheap — money he could spend improving his business.

“Margins aren’t the best. We’re trying to make this block something cool, and we’ve only been open a year,” Routh continued. “It’s really upsetting.”

Nov. 13

Less than one week later, officers “responded to additional reports of property damage from nearby businesses along the same corridor.” This included the Little Gay Shop and King Bee. APD said no one was injured in this incident.
