DEL VALLE, Texas (KXAN) — Virginia Gonzales, who faces two felony child injury charges, rejected a plea offer from the State Wednesday.
The U.S. Marshals Lone Star Fugitive Task Force arrested Gonzales in May after her child was found “malnourished, soiled and barricaded in a bedroom closet” at a home on Ross Road in southeast Austin. According to her arrest affidavit, Gonzales allegedly kept the child in the closet for about a month and feeding her “one corn dog and half a cup of water a day.”

The State offered Gonzales a 40-year prison sentence in exchange for pleading guilty to felony injury to a child. She and her attorney Gabe Hernandez rejected the offer. Hernandez called the offer “utterly absurd.” Gonzales is still in custody…
