UT Austin regents consider alternate location for medical center

AUSTIN (KXAN) — The University of Texas System’s board of regents announced during its Thursday meeting that it was considering an alternate site for the U.T. medical center. Previously, the university said it would be built at the site of the former Frank Erwin Center.

The university system is now looking into a location in north Austin near The Domain, according to a statement made by Board Chairman Kevin Eltife on Thursday. The I-35 location remains under consideration.

The facility will include an MD Anderson Cancer Center and a U.T. hospital providing care for serious and complex conditions integrated with what Eltife called UT Austin’s “research engine.”…
