Austin City Council approves funding for homelessness initiatives

AUSTIN (KXAN) — Austin City Council approved $14.5 million in funding to support the Esperanza Community, along with seven more items supporting homelessness initiatives in the city.

The Esperanza Community, operated by The Other Ones Foundation, is a tiny home community in east Austin dedicated to helping people transition out of homelessness.

“I had a chance to speak with a resident there who told me that experience, him being sheltered, allowed him to get out of the chaos of homelessness and remember that he’s a human again,” said Councilmember Ryan Alter after Thursday’s meeting. “That just really stuck with me.”…
