Austin city leaders, firefighters’ union could soon reach agreement on new labor contract

AUSTIN, Texas — After months of disagreement, the City of Austin and the Austin Firefighters Association say they may finally be seeing eye to eye on a new labor contract. Both sides are expected to vote on the proposed agreement next week.

The deal comes three months after the city and union reached an initial agreement in September, but leaders returned to the table to address ongoing concerns about staffing and safety.
