Family of youngest yogurt shop murder victim weighs in on exoneration of original suspects

AUSTIN (KXAN) — Days after a motion was filed as the first step in clearing the names of the four men “wrongfully accused” in the 1991 Yogurt Shop Murders, the family of 13-year-old victim Amy Ayers said these court proceedings were “expected” following the break in the case announced in September.

Through DNA and ballistic evidence, the Austin Police Department’s cold case unit identified Robert Brasher’s as the suspect – and sole actor – in the quadruple homicide at the I Can’t Believe it’s Yogurt shop.

Four teen girls – Amy Ayers, Eliza Thomas, Sarah Harbison and Jennifer Harbison – were killed there, and the building was set on fire. The killings broke the hearts of countless community members.

Shawn and Angie Ayers, the brother and sister-in-law of 13-year-old Amy, said “all we ever wanted was truth and justice.”…
