Southbound MoPac near US 183 reopens after fatal crash

AUSTIN (KXAN) — Emergency responders shut down all lanes of southbound MoPac Expressway around 9:26 a.m. Tuesday, according to the Texas Department of Transportation.

In a social media post, TxDOT said that the road was closed “for police activity.” The agency recommended that drivers avoid the area and seek alternate routes.

The Central Texas Regional Mobility Authority said in a separate post that the road was closed due to a crash. In a photo posted by the authority, the crash appears to have happened just after the West Anderson Lane overpass and U.S. Highway 183.

Austin Police said that when officers responded to a collision call on MoPac, they located one person who was pronounced dead at the scene. APD Vehicular Homicide detectives are investigating the crash and death, and APD public information officer told KXAN.
