AUSTIN, Texas — The Austin Police Department announced earlier this month that they had indefinitely suspended Officer Joseph Spees after an incident relating to an intoxicated subject.
Chief of Police Lisa Davis determined that Officer Spees violated Austin Police Department policy during the incident and suspended him indefinitely. This took effect on December 3, 2025.
According to officials, an Internal Affairs investigation found that the officer violated APD General Orders by performing an “unreasonable takedown on an intoxicated subject.” They also said that the officer failed to de-escalate, failed to care for the injured subject, and did not accurately report the incident…
