Austin pilot program cuts left-turn crashes, boosts pedestrian safety

AUSTIN (KXAN) — The city of Austin said its pilot program aimed at making left turns safer has improved safety for pedestrians.

The program tested the changes at 16 intersections, which were designed to improve the safety of crosswalks.

Data collected during the program showed 46% fewer left-turn crashes involving pedestrians at those intersections.

There were also 34% fewer injury crashes involving left turns…
