Man Trapped Vertically on Terrifying ‘Tilt’ Coaster Says ‘My Mind Went to the Darkest Places’ as He Dangled at 130 Feet

A publicist representing the two riders stuck on the coaster claims they were “stranded nearly an hour” before emergency services released them

One of the riders left dangling more than 100 feet in the air when a roller coaster malfunctioned at it’s most terrifying point is revealing what went through his mind during the ordeal.

“My mind just went to the darkest places,” Matthew Cantu, 24, tells CBS Austin about the Wednesday, Dec. 17 incident in which he was reportedly left suspended facing straight down for nearly an hour. “Being up there that long, it can do a lot to a person.”

Cantu and Nicholas Sanchez, 20, were left “stranded” at the top of the unique “tilt” coaster, which features a segment of horizontal track that breaks off and, with the ride vehicle locked in place, tilts forward 45 degrees before reconnecting to a piece of vertical track. Once locked into place, the attraction then releases the vehicle, sending riders into a straight drop. “At that position, the only thing between the ground and you is the harness,” Cantu explains…
