Austin, Texas — Three people arrested for jaywalking and resisting police in downtown Austin allegedly failed to tell officers that an 11-month-old baby was still locked inside the car they arrived in, according to court documents and police reports.
The suspects — Gabrielle Aleman, 22; Isaiah Calvo, 25; and Jaslyn Tovar, 21 — were taken into custody late on December 15 after officers with the Austin Police Department nearly struck them while they were standing in the roadway instead of using a crosswalk.
Police stop escalates into arrests
According to court records tied to the pedestrian violations, officers observed the trio in the street and described them as appearing “oblivious to their situation.” When police asked them to move toward the sidewalk, the group allegedly refused to comply.
Officers eventually caught up with the three, at which point Aleman and Tovar allegedly resisted arrest, physically struggling with police. Authorities say Aleman ran approximately 20 feet before being detained, while Tovar allegedly flailed on the ground as officers attempted to handcuff her.
