The aftermath of the Independence Day floods is still a pressing issue for Travis County, with dozens of vehicles washed away by the disaster remaining unclaimed. Found in a lot between Cedar Park and Lago Vista, these vehicles stand as a lingering symbol of the event’s havoc. According to KXAN, the county is holding onto the vehicles to give owners an opportunity to file insurance claims or register a loss.
Although the holiday season traffic bustles along FM 1431, the collection of stationary vehicles near New Hope Road presents a striking contrast. “Having these cars sitting here, it is hard to see them. I mean when we go by them, at least one person in my car says something, or I look at them and I feel like, man, the devastation is just so real,” Lago Vista resident Tamara Sims told FOX 7 Austin. Travis County officials hold that the disposition of these vehicles must await the coming forward of their owners.
According to FOX 7 Austin, Travis County spokesperson Hector Nieto elaborated on the efforts to locate vehicle owners, stating, “So, we work with the state of Texas to do that. They’ve been assisting us in trying to help us find those vehicles. All vehicles are registered, not just with the county and state. So, we are trying to work through that process to help them.
