AUSTIN, Texas — Funding shortages are threatening a rental assistance program for Central Texas families. Local nonprofit Foundation Communities, which focuses on affordable housing and support services, announced its Emergency Rent Assistance Program has exhausted its funds.
The program, which aims to help families stay housed during times of financial hardship, supported nearly 200 families in 2025 with approximately $200,000 in aid. However, officials told KVUE recent cuts to federal funding and the looming threat of reduced local support have left the organization in a tough position.
“I’ve seen families that were really on the brink of not being able to pay rent and be homeless,” Executive Director Walter Moreau said. “And because of extra help from Foundation Communities, they keep their apartment and get the support that they need.”…
