(KTLA) – Sprinkles Cupcakes says it is shutting down its company-owned bakery shops nationwide, a move that marks the end of an era for the once-booming dessert brand and has prompted emotional backlash online from employees who say they were given little notice before losing their jobs.
“After thoughtful consideration, we’ve made the very difficult decision to transition away from operating company-owned Sprinkles bakeries,” a representative for the company wrote in a statement shared with Nexstar’s KTLA.
The decision effectively closes all company-operated Sprinkles locations. The company has not said whether its well-known cupcake ATMs are included in the shutdowns or what support, if any, will be offered to displaced workers…
