Exonerated Austin police officer soon eligible to work in law enforcement again

AUSTIN (KXAN) — A former Austin police officer exonerated last week will soon be eligible to be employed as a Texas peace officer, according to the Austin Police Association (APA).

On Dec. 30, the 7th Court of Appeals’ ruled in favor of officer Christopher Taylor and overturned a deadly conduct conviction stemming from the 2019 deadly shooting of a man in downtown Austin. Taylor was convicted in 2024 and sentenced to two years in prison.

APA said the revocation of Taylor’s license has been rescinded, and that a few more administrative steps need to take place until that license is officially reinstated.
