Woman charged with arson for setting boyfriend’s jacket on fire in North Austin apartment

AUSTIN, Texas — CBS Austin is learning new details about the arrest of a woman charged with arson in connection with a fire at a North Austin apartment complex last week.

Court documents say Amaiya Byrd, 23, allegedly set her boyfriend’s jacket on fire on her balcony at The Lakes at Renaissance Park apartments, located at 14000 Renaissance Ct, on Friday, Jan. 2, at around 4:04 p.m.

Evidence determined that burn patterns were consistent with the fire starting on the balcony of her apartment.

Witnesses told Travis County sheriff deputies that Byrd was acting strangely when she was given a ride away from the complex after the fire. Byrd eventually returned to the complex and admitted to authorities that she lit the jacket with a lighter…
