One of Austin’s oldest neighborhood restaurants, for decades committed to serving sophisticated casual food at reasonable prices — including some of the city’s most famous French fries — has a new owner.
Longtime Austin restaurateur Bick Brown sold Hyde Park Bar & Grill late last year, ending a 43-year run at the neighborhood institution housed in a midsize bungalow fronted by the trademark fork sign on Duval Street.
Brown sold the restaurant he opened in September 1982 to married couple Brian and Angela Luke, who have owned and operated Artemis Mediterranean Grill at the Hill Country Galleria in Bee Cave since 2019.
‘An old-time business that needs some new energy’
Brown, a Corpus Christi native whose restaurant career includes time working with Mike Young and John Zapp at Gianni’s, serving as the opening manager at the original Chuy’s and owning fine dining restaurant Zoot, said he’d been thinking of selling the bar and grill since the early days of the pandemic.
