Texas is now the permanent home to a women’s professional softball team with Athletes Unlimited.
When former MLB general manager Kim Ng took over as commissioner of Athletes Unlimited Softball’s League last summer, she transformed it from a player-led model to a four-team league. With the help of a strategic partnership by Major League Baseball, the company sent the four teams —the Bandits, Blaze, Talons and Volts—to barnstorm 12 different nationwide, participating in a 24-game regular-season schedule.
