University of Texas student develops tool to identify what drives cancer survival

AUSTIN (KXAN) — Cancer researchers have a new tool at their disposal that could help improve survival rates. Developed by University of Texas undergraduate student Milit Patel, this new system gathers data from around the world to determine what drives cancer survival in nearly every country on the planet.

Using machine learning, the system, called Global Health Predictor Insights, identifies what improvements or policy changes countries can make that will have the greatest impact on survival rates.

The research, published in Annals of Oncology, uses data from 185 countries.
