Austin, Texas – A dangerous stretch of winter weather could grip much of central Texas beginning late Friday night, bringing icy roads, potential power outages, and life-threatening cold through Sunday morning. Travel conditions are expected to deteriorate quickly, especially overnight and during the early morning hours.

According to the National Weather Service in Austin/San Antonio, a Winter Storm Watch is in effect from late Friday night through Sunday morning for northern portions of south central Texas. Light to moderate accumulations of ice and sleet are likely, with the Hill Country potentially seeing wintry precipitation as early as around midnight Saturday.
