Judge sentences third defendant to 50 years for 2022 teen’s murder in NW Austin

GEORGETOWN, Texas — A Williamson County judge has sentenced Devin Vasquez-Pacheco, the last of three defendants, to 50 years in prison for the murder of 16-year-old Adrian Murillo Curiel in 2022.

The sentencing happened on Jan. 16, 2026, and concluded the legal proceedings stemming from the June 12, 2022, shooting in northwest Austin.

Prosecutors detailed how Vasquez-Pacheco, now 20, and his accomplices lured Curiel and two others to Pond Springs Elementary under the guise of a drug transaction. Upon arrival, the defendants opened fire on the vehicle, fatally wounding Curiel. Despite attempting to flee, Curiel lost consciousness and crashed into a backyard, where he was pronounced dead at the scene…
