The Texas Third Court of Appeals on Friday upheld the first-degree murder conviction and 90-year prison sentence of Kaitlin Armstrong for the 2022 killing of professional cyclist Anna Moriah “Mo” Wilson. The appellate court rejected all three issues raised by Armstrong’s attorneys, including a bid to suppress her statement to law enforcement.
“Our hearts continue to break for Moriah’s family and friends,” District Attorney José Garza said in a statement. “The appellate process, while a fundamental right of any defendant, prolongs closure. We will continue fighting to ensure that the defendant is held accountable for her actions.”
Armstrong was convicted by a Travis County jury on Nov. 16, 2023, of murdering Wilson in East Austin and sentenced to 90 years in prison the following day. She was found guilty after fewer than two hours of deliberation in a trial that drew intense local and national attention.
Wilson, 25, a rising gravel racing star, was found shot multiple times inside a friend’s home on May 11, 2022, hours after spending part of the day with professional cyclist Colin Strickland, who had briefly dated her while Armstrong and Strickland were separated.
