NTSB investigates Waymo vehicles passing stopped Texas school buses

A self-driving car company operating in Central Texas is now under federal investigation for its vehicles improperly passing stopped school buses. The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) has launched a probe into Waymo’s robotaxis following a series of incidents in Austin.

Since last school year, Austin ISD has issued 25 citations against Waymo for its driverless vehicles passing stopped school buses, some of which were loading and unloading children. An Austin ISD spokesperson confirmed to MySA that the district was contacted by the NTSB and has agreed to meet with the agency in reference to Waymo’s alleged violations.

According to CBS News, NTSB investigators will travel to Austin to gather more information on these incidents involving Waymo and the buses. Last month, Waymo received its 20th citation from Austin ISD after the company said it had fixed the issue through software updates in November 2025…
