AUSTIN (KXAN) — Icy roads led to several accidents across Central Texas last weekend and early into this week. Some drivers slid off the road and ended up stuck. They would have had to pay for a tow truck to rescue their cars, were it not for the unexpected help of an Austin local and his 20-year-old truck.
John Bowman said it’s just something he does. During the 2021 ice storm, he pulled more than 60 cars out of ditches and up hills.
“It’s a 2006 Toyota Tacoma, four-wheel drive. It’s been modified by myself and I built snow chains for it years and years ago,” he said. “Every time it snows or ices, I go out just to help people out of bad situations. I have tow straps and I have ways to attach it to vehicles without damaging them. And just to help them get along their way.”…
