AUSTIN, Texas — The Texas Education Agency (TEA) has approved the vast majority of Austin ISD’s turnaround plans to improve failing schools.
Austin ISD Superintendent Matias Segura sent a letter to parents on Thursday night stating that the TEA approved 22 of the 24 plans.
The schools affected by the turnaround plans are:
- Martin Middle School
- Bedichek Middle School
- Paredes Middle School
- Dawson Elementary School
- Oak Springs Elementary School
- Sanchez Elementary School
- Pecan Springs Elementary School
- Barrington Elementary School
- Wooldridge Elementary School
- Linder Elementary School
- Sadler Means YWLA
- Brown Elementary School
- Govalle Elementary School
- Wooten Elementary School
- Norman-Sims Elementary School
- Houston Elementary School
- Hart Elementary School
- Pickle Elementary School
- Jordan Elementary School
- Padrón Elementary School
- Overton Elementary School
- Eastside Early College High School
For the remaining two schools – Widén Elementary and Winn Montessori – Segura said that the TEA requested additional details before issuing final approval. Specifically, Segura said that the TEA has asked the district to provide more detail around the plan to support students who are reassigned and how it will fund those extra supports.
