AUSTIN, Texas — Austin Police detectives are investigating a fraud case after a vehicle with a rolled-back odometer and a tampered title was sold through Facebook Marketplace. The incident occurred on September 15, 2025, when a victim purchased the vehicle using cash in the 10100 block of Barden Road.
The seller, who identified himself as the individual listed on the vehicle title, provided a title that appeared ready for transfer, according to a press release from the Austin Police Department. Shortly after the purchase, the victim experienced mechanical issues and discovered the odometer had been altered, with falsified mileage on the title.
